Erykah Badu Trying To Cancel Rappers (Update: She's Not)

To be honest, most rappers who are really skilled at the art of MCing (e.g. Lil Wayne) aren't necessarily skilled at articulating themselves when they talk. And that's not a diss, but it is what it is.

The only thing worse than being silent about socio-political issues is being vocal about socio-political issues and not being able to articulate yourself. It's better to be silent than to be vocal and sound like a fool. It's actually counter-productive.

People always say that 2Pac was socially conscious and compare him to Malcolm X (which is ridiculous) but between making Hit Em Up and kicking Orlando Anderson when he was down at that casino, he just caused confusion. A 13-year old in 1996 wouldn't know what to think after hearing Hit Em Up and watching Pac and his crew jumping Orlando Anderson.

I'd rather listen to a rapper talk about selling drugs and shooting people than listen to a rapper talking about selling drugs, shooting people and uplifting the Black community.

For me it's all about balance.

So yeah if the majority of hip hop music is kill kill kill murder murder murder.. scam scam scam.. fuck alla that.

We just need some balance.. we need some conscious/thought provoking shit.. we need some fun shit... we need some ratchet shit.. we need some shit to dance to.

It's only when ONE message is coming across in the overall music/culture that I have a problem with

To be fair, rappers that had a fair amount of commercial success have "conscious" songs laced on throughout their albums..ross, ti, pusha, j cole, 2 chainz, big sean, etc.

Those songs arent typically hits tho and the way the industry is structured now...if youre a relatively new artist, you want to put out an album of 13-15 songs with hitmaking potential and hope that one of them becomes viral and blows up.

Lets face it suburban white kids love songs about niggas killin each other, gettin bent off latest narcotic, etc. When you talk about black empowerment not so much...

What exactly are you implying here?

Speak on that man in context or don't speak on him at all.

You aren't born enlightened and you don't get the luxury of a short road to enlightenment. He went through alot in a short amount of time and instead of being able to live out his journey, he was murdered.

The road to knowledge is paved with ignorance. Don't be so judgemental that you forget how confused you were while figuring out truth from falsehood.
