Random thoughts.
I am fortunate that my family and friends are all alive in the VI. We have lost a lot of material possessions. Most of which will never be recovered but everyone is safe.

Weddings Ceremonies.

I like some of you was neither a fan of marriage(paper) or ceremony. I will admit that my thoughts on the ceremony have changed and I was wrong. Wedding ceremonies are not just about the 2 individuals but also about moments. My wife and her father dancing. My sister giving a speech about me. Watching family party like they have not in years. There is a joy that your celebration can bring to your family and friends that can't be measured. It doesn't have to be an expensive lavish event but if you are getting married or not have something to celebrate your union. It may be one of the best days of your life.
Just read this. This is so good to hear. I've always been lukewarm on weddings and ceremonies because I saw them as rituals that didn't really have relevance to someone as non-religious as me. The familial side of it is appealing though.

I'm glad your family had a lovely day.

I never imagined how big of a deal the ceromony is to everyone else. There was a point where we just sat back at look at everyone enjoying themselves and said we did this. We brought this much joy to both of our families. When you take away the religion and all the other stuff that is involved and you look at it as a way to honor your family and your ancestors it takes on a different perspective. People really cried at my ceremony. ( not going to lie I was one if them) but the tears were of pure joy and happiness. Easily other than the day my son was born the best day of my life.

The feelings I have given to this post are mine, by the way.

Can you elaborate on the honoring ancestors aspect?

I think I have mentioned that my mother in law died about a year and a half ago. She never had a true wedding ceremony. Everyone that attended and saw the pictures that knew her has said that her hand was in this ceremony. They said there was so much of her spirit involved that she was there. Now I am going to go a little deep but my wife's uncle started crying during the ceromony because he said he looked up and saw my mother in law and their mother staring down at the ceromony. Now we may or may not believe in that kind of stuff but it is what he said he saw. I personally do believe in it. So I believe the ancestors can watch what we are doing here and be proud of our actions. Just we can not always see them.
