Mike Tyson to Em: "You're the only white guy that knows what it feels like to be an n****"

I disagree. White people can never truly experience being black or know what it feels like, but they can understand that we face unique challenges caused by historical and modern racism.

You really going to argue that a white person that's spent significant amount of time around and relating to black people doesn't understand the position of black people any more than a white person who's never really dealt with black people?

My whole point was that a white person may TRY to empathize with black folks.. but they will never truly understand what it's like to be black.

A white person knowing and accepting that this country treats black people like shit does not equal "knowing what it feels like to be a nigga"

Is Tyson’s comment an instance where using the word coon is a reach?

Dumbass comment for sure... I wouldn't go as far as calling him a coon tho

No one called him a coon. I said it was coon shit and it happens from time to time.

Fair enough... yall didn't directly call him a coon.

Coon shit. It happens.
Coon talk
There must be something about eminem that makes these niggas coon like they do.
Mike Tyson not the lightest fucking bulb so I'll just chalk it up to some coon shit that happens along the way sometimes.
Soft shoe coonery

Yall just said this was coon shit... coon talk... that something about "eminem made him coon"... said it was some coon shit again... and that it was soft shoe coonery

Duly noted.

Glad you understand.

There is no context in which a white person can understand or compare what it is to be black... it's a ridiculous statement.

That being said... Folks on here throw the word coon around way too much IMO

A non black person can def understand it.

To truly understand something you must experience it. So while he can understand some things, he will never be able to truly understand what if feels like to be black, for obvious reasons.

It's great for people to gather understanding as understanding reduces strife in all things, and he may have more understand than others, so maybe just one extra word would have changed a lot. "Eminem, you're the only white guy that kinda knows what it's like to be black"

This. Having empathy and a true understanding of something are 2 different things.
