Joey Janella having a technical match with Omega suprised me, really good match and he made Omega's offense look good expecially the last vtrigger.

AEW Dynamite Beats WWE NXT Again As Both Are Pummeled Against MLB World Series

AEW Dynamite expectedly defeated WWE NXT for the fourth straight week, however both Wednesday night wrestling showcases saw decided decreases in viewership.

AEW garnered 963,000 viewers—down 5% from last week’s number of 1.014 million. AEW was No. 4 for the night in the Cable Top 150 in the 18-49 demographic. WWE NXT came in at No. 21 for the night among the 18-49 demographic as its streak of viewership decline continued with just 698,000 viewers compared to 712,000 from last week.

Thursday’s ratings mark the first time since the start of the Wednesday Night Wars that both AEW and WWE NXT fell below one million viewers in the same week. WWE NXT’s viewership has now fallen almost 60% from its premiere viewership of 1.179 million on September 18 and declined in each of its five weeks on the USA Network.

Both Dynamite and WWE NXT faced stiff competition from Game 2 of the MLB World Series as the Washington Nationals took a shocking 2-0 lead on the road against the Houston Astros to the tune of 11.8 million average viewers. Interestingly enough, Major League Baseball shares similarities with pro wrestling’s audience in both age and erosion.

As has been the case all month, the deeper we get into October, the more reality sinks in that pro wrestling is nowhere close to any semblance of a return to mainstream success.

In terms of viewership, AEW has had very positive initial returns with limited significant growing pains despite what you may read elsewhere, but like WWE NXT, its audience certainly has a ceiling for the time being in spite of the quality of its output thus far.

With the exception of Raw’s modest 2.87% increase Monday night, no first-run broadcast from Raw, WWE NXT, AEW Dynamite or Friday Night SmackDown has seen a week-to-week increase in viewership. In the wake of another dual decline from Wednesday, and Friday Night SmackDown being temporarily moved to FS1 to accommodate Game 3 of the World Series, pro wrestling’s month of lagging viewership will mostly extend through another full week.

Both NXT and AEW have offered a critically acclaimed and creatively satisfying programming, but none of it seems to matter, at least initially. There is a stench on pro wrestling and its fanbase, which garners only a fraction of the ad revenue of a traditional sitcom despite consistently outperforming weekly competitors in the 18-49 demographic.

Per Dave Meltzer of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” “a 0.75 would be the equivalent of a 0.38 for a regular sitcom—20/20, or something like that.”

Meltzer went on to note that the 0.38 share that is typical for pro wrestling viewership in the 18-49 demo represents “last place” in ad revenue.

With Raw now joining NXT and AEW in an ongoing push to introduce new blood into the pro wrestling stratosphere, viewership will continue to be limited with no high ceiling in sight.

Anthony Ogogo Enters Pro Wrestling, Inks Deal With AEW

Olympic bronze medal Anthony Ogogo has signed a deal with rising pro wrestling company AEW, according to an announcement by the company.

AEW is widely viewed as an up and coming threat to the longtime industry leader, WWE. The young company recently made their anticipated debut on TNT with their weekly program Wednesday Dynamite.

At the 2012 London Olympics in Trabzon, Turkey - he secured an bronze medal after losing a decision to Esquiva Falcao Florentino in the semi-finals.

In December of that same year, Ogogo decided to go pro and signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions.

But that talented boxer was plagued with injuries that eventually ended his career.

After just seven fights, he was out for a year after requiring surgery for an achilles injury. He suffered his first career defeat on October 22, 2016 at the hands of Cunningham. During the fight he was suffered a badly fractured eye socket.

He never fully recovered from the injury. He underwent two operations on his left eye and was registered as blind in that eye. Ogogo eventually announced his retirement from the sport in March of 2019 at the age of 30. He ended his career with a record of 11 wins, 7 by knockout, and the sole defeat.

Back in February, Ogogo had already considered a career in pro wrestling - and made his wrestling debut in his hometown for the World Association of Wrestling (WAW). He was also featured on Cody Rhodes's YouTube series, The Road to Double or Nothing.

"I'm seriously considering becoming a professional wrestler, I may join one of the big companies and do some wrestling because it has always been something I've enjoyed," Ogogo told EDP 24 earlier this year.

"At first it was a bit of a guilty pleasure because most kids get to an age where it's all glitz and glam and the wrestling, if you're a kid, is exciting as you don't know it's scripted. It's an amazing show and as a kid I fell in love with it. As I grew older, I thought I would grow out of it but I never have - and if anything it's the opposite, I love it even more.

"I think for me it would tick so many boxes. I have been a massive fan of it my entire life, I'm physically - other than my eyes - in the prime of my life."

AEW co-owner Cody Rhodes appeared at Saturday's Southside Wrestling event in Hertfordshire, England to announce the signing of Ogogo. Later in the show, Ogogo took part in an angle when he and wrestler MJF exchanged words. MJF dared Ogogo to punch him - which he did, laying MJF out. Ogogo would then tell MJF that he would confront him during this Wednesday's AEW show on TNT.

Other boxers, like Tyson Fury, are satisfying their desire to test the waters with pro wrestling. For the last few weeks, Fury and WWE star Braun Strowman have been engaged in an ongoing feud - which is playing on during televised angles on the WWE's flagship shows on USA and Fox. On October 31, Fury will face Strowman in a wrestling match, as part of WWE's Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.
