Widely considered the most prestigious law school in the world, Harvard Law Review has elected Imelme Umana as their president, which is considered to be the highest student position at Harvard Law school. The Harvard Law Review allows students to improve their legal research and writing, while offering judges and scholars a platform for new legal discussions and debates. This will be the first time a black woman has been elected for the position, the first black person ever to be elected was none other than President Barack Obama in it’s 130 year history. Umana also works as a Research Assistant at the Hiphop Archive at the Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research and is interested in the connection between government and African American studies by exploring how stereotypes of black women are reinforced in American social and political discussion.
