Why Is Most Music Performed By Males?

I was going to name the thread, Why Is The Music Industry Dominated By Males? but that's not really true. If you look at the people behind the scenes like the receptionist or the tour manager you're likely to see more females, but as far as the people on stage performing, its like 90% males.

And I'm not just talking about Hip Hop, I was trying to make a playlist of 80s female soul songs. So I went google and typed in '80s soul songs' and this is one of the first links that came up

So I went to the link and the majority of the songs on the list are either by males, or bands that are all male. There's really only a handful of female singers on that list.

Also in Hip Hop, the female MC is more of an anomaly. You could probably only name 20 female MCs, if that.

Why is most music performed by males?

the main reason is because pop music sales are dominated by women. women feel music more to get into the mood or have fun or whatever. the beatles and new kids on the block and elvis and shit and james brown and michael jackson and all these super big acts are driven by women. women feeling moved by the music, they go to concerts in droves they chase men down the street they throw panties on the stage. women are the ones who buy most of music related shit. just like men mostly are into sports.

women are groupies to the music, and that fuels the industry. men don't get moved in that same way. if a man saw michael jackson walking down the street he wasn't going to run screaming and chasing him. whereas hundreds of women would be doing so. Even if the artist is a woman, men arent going to go chasing and going crazy over, shakira or rihanna. women do.

so if women are the ones buying most of the records and falling in love with these artists, it proves that their will be more male artists than female. women like chicks like madonna and lady gaga, but most of the time they wanna fantasize about some man singing about love, not about a woman.

think of those clips of frank sinatra singing or elvis dancing, all those women in the crowd going crazy. there is not a comparbale artist like that for men. so if women are the ones affected by music the most, it seems that most of the artists will be male.

Yeah I get that women go crazy over pop stars like Michael Jackson, Prince and Usher.

But you mentioned Shakira and Rihanna. I can guarantee its not dudes buying those albums.

Also, in Hip Hop there's a lot of MCs and groups that don't appeal to women at all, like Gang Starr or Pete Rock and CL Smooth. You would think there would be an equal amount of female singers and/or rappers that appeal to women because they can touch on things that men either don't know about, don't care about or just don't understand, like Lauryn Hill's Miseducation... album. Miseducation... won a handful of Grammys and went 8X plat. How come that doesn't happen more often?

I remember when Lil Kim and Foxy Brown came out and it was a big deal. Why are two female rappers a big deal? Seems like there should always be a handful of female rappers in the mix.

thats what im saying, the biggest male stars are big because of women, and the biggest female stars are big because of women.

i mean even look at rappers like 50 cent or dmx or tupac

dudes liked them, but women loved those dudes, thats why they were so popular. take black moon. no chicks was fucking with no damn black moon.

as for women rappers, women don't care about having shit touched on that men dont know about. they wanna dance and be sexy.. i am over generalizing but men are the ones that sit and listen to lyrics and analyze music, not just rap but rock and all that shit. men be sitting down listening to words.

women dont give a fuck what lyrics are, they just want a nice groove to shake they ass too. music, to women, is primarily a think they listen to in the club or at the gym having fun. women aint trying to sit down and listen to no one spitting bars.

im also not sure what you mean by bringing up gangstar and pete rock and cl smooth. neither of those groups were super big. or sold mad records.
