Why are people concerned about someone's online status? If you want to ask someone something and you can't see their status, send your message anyway. They will still get it. Kind of like instant messager that we use at work. Some people show that they are "away" or "busy" for different reasons. If I need to ask something, I send a message anyway. Sometimes I hide my status but will answer certain people I don't mind talking to.

I dont remember if I am hidden or not and dont know how to check if I am on this fancy site.... But, I hide my status simply because I can. It's something I got accustomed to from lurking on other sites in the past.
