White Reporter Who Said CMT Awards "Is Not Wakanda"

Anthony Mackie hosted and Monica performed with Jimmie Allan and Little Big Town at the CMT Awards.
A white right-wing reporter was upset that there were several Black celebrities at the CMT Music Awards this year. Anthony Mackie and Monica's presence at the award show prompted a bigoted rant from reporter Patrick Howley who complained that there were "so many Black people" at the CMTs.

Mackie, who stars as Sam Wilson and the new Captain America in the MCU and previously hosted the 2021 ESPYs, was the main target in Howley's rant. "I don't know who this Black guy who's hosting it. It's supposed to be country music. No offense. I mean, y'all have hip-hop and basketball. Just fly with your flock bro," Howley said.

Monicaperformed during the event and shut down Howley for attempting to downplay her success within country music. Though she acknowledged that there might be a demographic of people who agree with the reporter, "it’s NOT by the masses," she said.

"I have an all star LEGENDARY team of true country artist that are currently working with me that would beg to differ ! Because of the genuine hearts of @lesliefram1 & @cmt … I shared the stage w/ @jimmieallen & @littlebigtown …This was the first of many times that you will see me! I see You caught that my skin is melanated, but you missed that it was tough," she wrote. "I’m rooted in the word & built to last ! See you soon, or should I say 'Welcome to Wakanda' gracefully bows w/ @anthonymackie 'OPEN ROADS COMING SOON' MDA."

Nice clapback by Monica, though I'm surprised to see her delving in Country Music. Wasn't she one of those "I want a thug" birds back in the day?

Also, I'm pretty sure the CMT Awards have had black acts before. Darius Rucker has been pretty popular in that genre for a while.

The same Monica who covered up her tattoos with arm bands and had a hit song about not fucking on the 1st night? Yeah she was running around saying she wanted a thug

lol @ thinking that the songs artists sing actually reflect their core beliefs and values. I guess none of the dudes with songs about treating a woman right ever cheated or ran around fucking multiple chicks, huh?

Also lol @ you bringing up that she covered her tattoo. Ok, but she still got the tattoo at one point correct? Not that having a tattoo means anything one way or another.

No I mentioned those things because that's the exact opposite of running around screaming I want a thug if she was that image conscious to cover up a simple arm band tattoo.

That's not exactly true either. People play little games like that parsing between their personal and professional lives all the time.

That said, I don't know if Monica was one of those chicks or not. I could be mistaking her for someone else or maybe she dated a couple "thugs" at one point and I thought that was her type.

Who she was thru the 90’s is largely irrelevant to anything pertaining to the overall topic.
If anything you bringing it up while she defends herself can be seen as an attack on her character.

like… how you feeding that puppy with your left hand but scruffin it with your right?

lol You guys gotta stop. All I said was that I, me personally, was surprised by her presence at the CMT awards because of what I thought I knew about her. I wasn't attacking her and my personal knowledge about her doesn't really extend past the 90s, so any impression I have of her is understandably outdated.

Black country music artists do have it tough though.

Most black people don't like their music and most country music fans don't like them, so they're kinda shooting for a very small group that might support.

It isn't funny but personally I would never let that corny shit get to me. Attacking someone in public shows fear and desperation. I'd be more worried if something like that was done behind the scenes.

Reporters writing articles on other reporters always seems fishy to me….cheap way for both to work together to get attention
