He was top 5 in his era (87-91)

I'm not sure how that translates into being the Greatest Of All Time.

His first album was a classic, his next few albums wee solid but for whatever reason he got worse and the game changed and he fell by the wayside while LL Cool J, KRS One and Ice Cube kept going on strong.

I guess it's fair to say LL Cool J, KRS and Ice Cube should be ranked higher than Kane due to longevity.

After some thought, I guess he's around #25.

But the question is; Is he between 10-25 or 26-50?

As lyricists go and impact goes, Kane is #3 on my list behind KRS and Rakim.

The problem with Kane is that he got caught up in that "smooth ladies man" persona he created, especially after fucking Madonna. This resulted in the two albums "Taste of Chocolate" and "Prince of Darkness".

If he went from "It's a Big Daddy Thing" straight to "Looks Like a Job For" he would have kept his legacy intact.

Yall gotta stop overrating niggas just cuz they came out in the 80s and under-rating niggas who came out post 90s.

BDK was dope, but he had 2 solid albums and then fell of the face of the earf.

But when it's a nigga from the 2000s "yea he got about 5 dope albums, i still need to see how his next 2 or 3 albums sound before i can put him in the top 10" :foh5:

Rap albums weren't as common back in the 80s. Back then you had to go to a professional studio.

Nowadays all you need is a mac computer and a $500 mic and Pro Tools.

You can probably count the rap albums between 1980-1985 on two hands.

If you had the biggest baddest computer with the most gigs, you couldn't count how many rap albums came out in the past year.

Think back to the late 90s when major labels were throwing money at rap artists giving them million dollar advances, another million for sample clearances and million dollar videos.

How can you compare an 80s rapper to a late 90s rapper on a major label?

Bruh, LL came out way before BDK and made hits into the 2000s

NWA came out when BDK did and damn near all of em had long ass careers

Rakim has 3-4 classic albums and came out before BDK

KRS has a long discography and came out the same time as BDK

the list goes on, that's a weak ass excuse that has no merit.

Even Slick Rick made a classic , got locked up, came out half a decade later and was part of multiple big records , cut the shit.

I don't have any concrete proof, but I think BDK signed a fucked up contract and doesn't make any money via record sales. I think he supports himself by doing shows.

It happens to a lot of artists, somebody gives them recoupable $10 million (or more) advance to sign a contract and they blow the money on drugs, champagne, hoes and jewelry. Then they get blacklisted because they blew the money and didn't make an album. That's what happened to Grandmaster Caz, he told me himself out of his own mouth. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened to Kane.
