What's The Best Way To Get A 360 Deal?

5 Grand

Old School Godfather
I've been recording alot of music lately and I'm sure I've got some hits under my belt. I feel like under the right circumstances I could make some noise.

People tend to say that independent is the way to go, which is probably true if you're 19 years old. But I'm in my 40s and I'm not trying to make a living out of being a rapper. I'd just like to release the songs I already have, do a tour, and cross that off my bucket list.

So how do I get a 360 deal?

You really want a 360 deal?...lol

I have 10 albums/mixtapes that I've recorded over the past year and my royalty payments are $100 per month if I'm lucky.

It would be nice to have a staff of people working for me, marketing, and promoting my songs, providing tour support and artist development. If I knew when I was 20 years old what I know now I'd go independent. But I'm too old to spend the next 5 years trying to build a brand.

Isnt a 360 deal bad?

To my understanding, a 360 deal means the label gives you a big fat recoupable cash advance ($1Million), a signing bonus (another $1million), and per diem (say, $100 per day). Then they make high budget videos and send you on tour all over the nation, and ultimately the world (Europe, Australia, Asia, etc.) They pay for your tour bus, the bus driver, your hotel rooms, they negotiate all the deals with the arena/stadium people and the artist generates millions upon millions of dollars, which the label keeps because their recouping the cash advance.

When the tour is over they drop you off at home and you end up with nothing. They keep the masters and the publishing.

However, depending on what you do with that cash advance and the signing bonus, you could be set for life. Also, you can say that you've toured the world and you've been in all the foreign countries and met all kinds of people all over the world.

At 40 years old I don't have the time (or energy) to play the game like a 19 year old.
