Depends on what kinda remix you're talking about.
The remix where the beat gets completely changed but vocals and artists are pretty much the same? dead in hip hop. still thriving in all the different electronic/edm genres because djs/producers are the stars in those genres.
Remix where the beat is basically the same but theres a few new artists on it? definitely don't happen as much as they used to. Probably happens less because it cuts into an artist's publishing. Plus there's not really a ton of hot artists. I mean why get 3 or 4 different artists on your remix when a single drake/jay/kendrick verse for a remix could probably push it further?

its just formulated different now
for one, they're not labeled remixes, rather just #2,3,4 etc
and the lines have disappeared....rappers used to only feature label mates and their crew so somebody outside of that was a big deal....so much it had to be announced to every coast as "THE REMIX"
but now everybody fucks with everybody and there's not many distinct sounds from one area or label.....southern artists gettin w/ eastcoast producers, NY artists gettin with west coast producers, and all flows and styles are fair game
