Early 2000s when they gave a fuck. That's why Eminem was able to make 8 mile cuz lyricism was cool and in style

97-99 is the late 90’s. You had Canibus, Mos Def, Talib, Pun, Common, Black Thought, Ras Kass, to name a few. Who were the mid 00 lyricist? Fab, Banks, Killer Mike, Cassidy?

If we being real 'lyricist' aint come back in style until Kendrick

Lupe tried to respark it. Slaughter house. Couple other ppl but Kendrick made it cool on the radio. Cole. Krit, Wale, Sean and all them owe that bag to Kendrick

Before that yall was complaining about Wayne and his clones or Autotune movenment

The 90’s and it’s not even close...

Lesser known “underground” rappers from tha 90’s could rap circles around a lot of the good rappers from tha 2000’s...new niggaz just had more appealing beats

Late 90's without a doubt.

Late 90's gave us Rakim's "The 18th Letter", KRS was still bringin' heat, The Wu dropped Forever, Tha Alkaholiks, Heiro, and 'nem was still active, OC, all of BCC, and way too many other lyricists were still heavy in the streets.

I mean, compare 90's Fat Joe to early 00's Fat Joe. Dude straight up dumbed it down after 2000.

Ras alas was never as big an artist as Game, Nip, anybody from TDE, Earl, Tyler, Blueface, Tyga etc but is at least as good lyrically as all and in most cases waaaay better....lyrically...than tha quick names listed

And that’s just 1 example
