I'm ethnically mixed. Often, I find I have no clue where I sit racially. Pops was French-Canadian, moms is from DR. I look like some kind of Spanish, but I am an off-white colour. How exactly does someone like I get classified? What factors do you consider for someone's race? Ancestry? Skin colour? How do facial features fit?

I can't consider myself black, due to the obvious fact that police don't treat me the way they treat darker folks. But am I white? Whites usually consider me to be nonwhite or 'other'.

Some theorists say race is a combination of what you identify as and what society labels you. Others lean in directions of either one or the other being the main consideration. Some people think it's just your father, but that's very patriarchal. Bob Marley had a White father and nobody views him as White.

What's your take on this? What determines the social construct of someone's race for you?

"Race" as you are trying to use it is not definable by anything you, nor anyone else, will seek to define it by. The amount of melanin in a persons skin, hair texture, blood type, bone structure, etc won't do it because none of those things belong solely nor in combination to one ethnicity of people. The only accurate usage of the word "race" is to apply it singularly to all of humanity. Another race would be if such a thing as elves or orcs existed....

What you are really getting at is ethnicity and culture. That is what really binds groups together and has as much to do with where and how you were brought up and socialized as with what you look like...all of those make up your identity

^^^^ 100% facts

But race being the social construct our society has created is a real, undeniable thing that affects all our lives directly or indirectly.

And my answer is to an individual, their race is based on their and their parent's nationalities, but out around strangers, seems to be defined by what others think u are.

Lock this shit

Why? This thread did numbers on the IC and its something that has important connotations for 21st century life. Where do the lines for whiteness, blackness, and in between races begin for you?

Race is a concept that varies from country to country, culture to culture.

It is an intersection between phenotype, nationality, culture, heritage, behavior, self perception, and how society views the individual.

Anthropologists consider there to be four basic races/sub species: caucasian, mongoloid, negroid, and australoid. But in a nation like the United States, your identity is perpetually up for debate.

Race is...who "they" say the statistical numbers "they" provide represent aka data bka The Census.

Question should be what determines your heritage (bloodline)?

That's a bit damaging to force people into boxes like that. "to be X minority then you have to think like this".
It is what it is. You say anti black stuff even though your mom is black AND you say anti Latino stuff even though your mom is of Latino heritage, you always play devils advocate to justify suspect things. You never seem to play devils advocate against white supremacy but you’ll do it against black people. So yeah.

It isn't anti-black to think minorities can be and often are racist towards each other. David Pilgrim lived through segregation and says the same shit thing

Does that mean someone is less black if they have some conservative learning views?
