To be fair the original was back in the 80s. That's a bit different than remaking movies from 2000s-present
“The Running Man” is King’s futuristic sci-fi thriller set in a dystopian, 2025 America. The story in the novel centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show “The Running Man” in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.

You do remember they remade Total Recall, right? Surely you also remember how they fucked up despite having current special effects, a far larger budget, and alladat?
Total Recall should serve as a reason not to do remakes.

The first one is too unique to copy. Basically the only person who can star in a remake is the Rock. And you would need some ex-WWE guys in the cast.
