Fantastic. I was wondering how he'd flip this story and BOY did he flip it. Flipped the entire morality of the original story and made the fate of "the suitors" even more satisfying.

I saw this earlier today.

It's good. Matt Damon, especially towards the end film was great. I think The Martian was a better acting performance for him, but he'll most likely get nominated for this.

And there are elements of horror, the "kitchen" scene is wildest shit I've seen in a long time, wilder than anything in Obsession for example.

The ending had a little bit of Gladiator inspiration, ala when the Spaniard meets Commodus in the arena. Ironically, Pattinson acts a little bit like Commodus too

Some issues:

The sound design is fantastic, but the actual score was just mid to me

Also, once again, Nolan' s Achilles heel(see what I did there) is filming melee combat. Been a problem since Batman Begins, and rears it's head here in the final act

Also in the 1st half Odysseus makes some really dumb decisions that nearly took me out the movie. hey look, let's go into that cave! His entire crew looking at him like, nahhh nigga you buggin

Doctor Dre actor is in this and plays a fuckboi, and the homie Wei Shen from Sleeping Dogs too but he ain't got any speaking lines

It's worth a watch in IMAX, and it's definitely gonna make bank, packed show at 12:30. It's better than Oppenheimer.

Slaps on a 2nd viewing. A lot of shit you didnt notice clicks, a lot of things hit harder, and the pacing feels way better once you know where its going

hey look, let's go into that cave! His entire crew looking at him like, nahhh nigga you buggin

Blame this one on Homer lol. The Cyclops is key to the story and it always takes place in a sealed cave. It is what it is. They're gang of hungry soldiers expecting a regular-ass human shepard because they dont realize that shit has gotten real yet.

The sound design is fantastic, but the actual score was just mid to me

The Cyclops screams are a masterpiece of sound design and mixing. MAN. @Silverfoxx and all my other producers take notes on that one.

Ludwig's work on Mando & Grogu's score was actually fantastic and better than this lol. He snapped on that soundtrack. The jazz guitar version of the Mando theme is fucking insane. But scoring this movie is obviously a completely different job. Nolan wanted him to provide a haunting ominous atmosphere and stay out of the way. Its like the "talker" rap beats that are lowkey because the point is let the MC shine. He didn't want no heroic themes, he wanted atmosphere and TENSION. That why the only real "songs" where you notice the music are like the Troy gate opening scene, the escape from the giants, and the one during the final battle......and they're all these pounding rhythms slowly getting faster as the action builds. Shit sounds like a panic attack, i see the vision

Also, once again, Nolan' s Achilles heel(see what I did there) is filming melee combat. Been a problem since Batman Begins, and rears it's head here in the final act

The spinning hallway fight in Inception??? Bane whooping Batman ass??? The Tenet reverse fight??? Nahhhh come on man. He's no Yuen Woo-ping but I think you're doing him a little dirty here. He got the job DONE with Odysseus tearing them niggas up

Lol but why promote these people?

Lol "promote" makes it sound like I'm hanging up posters around the city like a street team. I've had to see these dumbass bots and culture war incels whine about this for months and i will absolutely relish watching the hate campaign go over a cliff like that puppy. They really thought they had enough cultural power to fuck with the GOAT director of our era and kept doubling down.....

BLAOW.

Thought it was awesome

Didn't know he was going to bring a bunch of myths together

Only thing that bothered me was when they had Telemachus and Menelaus (had to google those names lol) outside hunting. The audio sounded more like they were in a closed area instead of outside. Could have been a bad Dolby Atmos mix. Everything else sounded amazing as usual

You knew the reveal was happening at the end but you just didn't know when the hell it was actually going to happen lol

The guy throwing down the weapons while dealing with Telemachus while Antinous kept saying "grab the spear!" "grab the shield!" "grab the sword" like it just made you want him to die more lol

My theater was trying to kill me. It's hot as fuck outside and I think the ac was broken. I was sweating bullets while also trying to hold my bladder. People were getting up to go to the bathroom. These long ass movies need an intermission

This. Is. Cinema.

This film is epic on so many levels. This cost 250 mill to make and Nolan did not waste a cent of it; its all put to good use. One of Matt Damon's strongest performances, his name will be around during award season. Emotional performance from Anne Hathaway as Penelope. Tom Holland proving what he's capable of; hopefully this is the start of him choosing great projects outside of the Marvel world. The Cyclops scene was crazy, that shit got super loud once they attacked it lol. Its crazy cause the protagonists of Nolan's last 2 films are ridden with regret and guilt for what they've done.

The sound design is amazing. The score, Ludwig did it again. Is there a better composer in cinema today? Hes so versatile. Theres so many moments where it keeps building towards a climax. Nolan is 1 of 1 right now. It's only a handful of directors who are bringing people out just based on their name alone. I loved the Cyclops scene but I think the Hades one might have been my favorite

My theater was PACKED for a 10am showing. People applauded when Polybus and Antinous got killed. It got a massive applause at the end too. Films like this should be experienced in a theater. It should be a communal experience. Not one to be watched isolated on your couch

This is going to do numbers this weekend.
