Thursday, September 29 around 1:00 in the afternoon, a group of Haitians entered the free zone of the Industrial Development Company (Codevi) located in the Ounaminthe / Dajabón border area, to stir up trouble there.

CODEVI explained in a press release "These people suddenly burst in and vandalized some of our food depots, destroying part of our facilities and breaking the windows of several buildings...

To avoid further consequences, the CODEVI security protocol was activated, protecting all personnel and thus avoiding further unprovoked damage" the evacuation was made under the protection of the agents of the National Police, the members of the Dominican army and the Corps specialized in land border security (CESFRONT) in order to avoid further incidents. Throughout this incident, the personal workers were protected and suffered no aggression.

Carlos Luciano Diaz Morfa, the Dominican Minister of Defense, clarified that the incident which occurred in the part of the free zone of Codevi, located in the town of Ounaminthe "was due to an internal affair registered on the Haitian side".

He assured that the border between the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Haiti is currently calm.

Santiago Riverón, the mayor of the municipality of Dajabón, announced the closure of the border market until further notice due to the situation of insecurity in the free zone of Codevi located in Ounaminthe.
