Downton Abbey doesn't deal quite extensively with potential world empire-wrecking drama, political tension and conspiracy. :p
I never finished downton abbey. It got like 3 seasons in and I was like "aite I get the point"
But the difference for me is that where downton can be kinda light hearted at times, the crown is pretty much all drama. It gives you the look of what "the point" of the royal family is. The writing and acting is top notch.
