THE 1ST TIME YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH HIP HOP

Was it particular song? A moment that stood out? What caught your attention that made you fell in love wit hip hop?

For me...it had to been when Dee Barnes had her show and she interviewed LONS. I think this was 89' or 90'

I was already a fan of early 80s hip hop....that interview is what made me love it. I think they were in a club or some spot. While she was interviewing the group, the camera all of the sudden slowly panned left.

Busta was sitting on the floor and just outta the blue...that nigga just started freestyling to himself. Everyone just stopped talkin and let that nigga just go in. I ain't never seen shyt like that before.

Deebo'd the segment by randomly spittin off the top of his head. That was when I officially became a Busta Rhymes fan (even tho folks bring up the Arsenio Hall performance when he wore that Dr.Seuss "Cat In the Hat" hat as his break out moment).

This is a great question, as a scout, I wasn't introduced to hip hop till my latter years 9/10.. prior to that it was all about Michael Jackson as a kid!

Around the age of 9/10 my cousin brought my brother and I to a Queen Latifah show. I loved the vibe! That same Christmas I had got Ready to Die as a picked out present...it started then, I was open; I literally played that tape till it popped. From then on I was hooked, until my freshmen year in HS when I got War Report and listen to my boys Hell on Earth... oh yea I was tuned in!

This is one of those early memories I have some recollection of. But I had to be like 4 or 5 years old. I was in the car with my mom and this song came on the radio. I remember singing the hook. The beat was catchy and It instantly became my favorite song. Every time we'd be in the car and it would come on the radio i' d ask my mom or dad to turn it up.

It wasnt until i got older and understood the positive nature of the song and it just made me like it even more. I had another moment lile this with Bone when they dropped E. 1999 Eternal and Crossroads was in heavy rotation.

Been a fan of hip hop ever since.

Infatuation started early because my older Idrens would come down from NYC and play stuff on the Island. One of them was a Dj . But real love started with Eric B and Rakim. Lyrically and flow was just different. There was a rough smoothness to their sound.

This is the first album I remember hearing from front to back. My dad used to play it loud as fuck in the house...my mom used to fuss at him “Turn this shit off these kids dont need to listen to this!” Lmao

He gave no fucks lmao

After this...I was hooked...I used to go through his CDs and Cassetes on the low and listen to all his shit...

How I heard NWA, Outkast, LL, BIG, PAC all of em...

Hmmm, I always liked hip hop, saw Krush Groove, Fat Boys, Breakin etc.....

I wanna say I fell in love in about 97, the appreciation for it matured into love

They had us singing this at the school assembly when we graduated from kindergarten, probably my earliest hip hop/rap memory

Nuthin but a G Thang came out. I was determined to learn that damn song and when I did, YOU COULDNT TELL ME SHIIIIIIIT!

When it comes on, I still get that feeling I got when i first heard it.

As a casual fan, I fucked with Snoop and Dre heavy. But it was these joints that made me a hiphop head and had me savin my lil money to hit the record store
