Welcome To aBlackWeb

Tennessee Senate passed a bill requiring drunk drivers to pay child support if they cause a death of a parent.

Fair or Not

Only because if they do this they have to do for everything that involves the death of a parent then

Also, if the DD has kids they will suffer as well.

Folks ain’t walking around with money having to go to jail and get out to support multiple families

Nice symbolic move but who can pay child support from prison?

Sitting in prison for XX years while accumulating CS debt.
Won't have a driver's license so they can't drive to work to pay the money owed upon release.
They will have the felony on their record, so a significant number of jobs/careers will be out of the question.
Them kids ain't gonna see a penny, if they do it won't be for years. And the chances for recidivism for such a convict are high.
The only people benefitting from this are the private prisons holding the DD and the voting districts manipulating bodies.

I don't know if TN has a work-release program, that may be the only way a child could see any money.
But that still depends on how much the state is willing to share with the child victims.
Though, if the work-release is only available for non-violent offenses, shit would be irrelevant.

Maybe they will be required to get a job in prison?

It may only pay few bucks but every dollar earned will go toward the child support🤷‍♀️

Idk...like you said, "nice symbolic move"

I feel like in most of these cases the court orders restitution to be paid regardless, so it’s entirely symbolic and no actual change
