Out of curiosity, is it illegal to have licensed (unloaded)gun in your luggage?
Or is there a certain way your supposed to notify the airline that you'll be bringing a gun?
For example, if your a (retired) police officer/active military soldier and you're flying across country and you want to bring a gun with you, is there a certain protocol where you can bring a gun without being arrested?

You have to declare it at the counter.
A long time ago (maybe 15-20 years) Harry Connick Jr, who was a popular Jazz singer at the time, did that. He got to the counter and realized that he had a gun in his luggage, so he told the people at the counter and the police swarmed on him like bees and it was big news on TV and the newspapers.
I'm thinking you should call first and ask them what's the protocol. You can't wait until your at the metal detectors to announce that you have a firearm.
