Spike Lee to Direct Multi-Part ESPN Documentary on Colin Kaepernick

According to Variety, famed director Spike Lee is tapped with directing ESPN's new mutli-part documentary on former NFL quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick. The project will focus on Kaepernick's early life, playing career, and social justice work.

“Kaepernick, who has never given a full, first-person account of his journey, is collaborating closely with Lee who plans to use extensive new interviews and a vast never-before-seen archive to help Kaepernick tell his story from his perspective,” the press release states.

News of Lee joining as the project's director came on Wednesday when the two were spotted at the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies game at Madison Square Garden.

Variety reports, "[p]roduction has started on the documentary, which was first announced in July 2020 as part of Kaepernick’s first-look deal with Walt Disney through his production company, Ra Vision Media."

So Kap didn't have anything to do with documentary about him on Netflix?
 
I saw that Netflix joint more of a dramatic series retelling part of his story and not really a full on documentary with him sitting down and telling his side of things like this seems to be

Ok, I thought that was a doc but it's not. Haven't watched it.
