Sony Music Admits To Selling Fake Michael Jackson Songs Using The Voice Of An Impersonator-blogged by @theRealAlexisDanielle
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In 2010 several songs credited to the late #MichaelJackson were released, causing listeners to question if the voice being heard actually belonged to the pop legend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, years later, Sony Music Entertainment is allegedly admitting to releasing music under MJ’s name that actually featured the voice of an impersonator. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sony reportedly stated in court that at least three songs from Jackson’s first posthumous album were recorded using someone else’s voice. The songs are Breaking News’, ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘Monster’, featuring 50 cent.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The case began in 2014, after one fan, Vera Serova, filed a civil suit against Jackson’s longtime friend, Eddie Cascio, that claimed he and his production company were selling fake Michael Jackson music through his estate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While Cascio claimed that Jackson had recorded the songs in 2007, Serova brought receipts to claim otherwise. The fan implicated singer Jason Malachi as the person whom she thought was behind the songs and even brought in a professional audiologist. She even pointed out that the songs did not include MJ’s signature snaps and foot taps. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Michael Jackson “expert” Damien Shields, Jackson’s family previously asked that the songs not be released, but was denied by Sony who had “complete confidence” that the songs were indeed sung by Jackson. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Vibe reports that It is not yet clear if the fan or Jackson’s estate will be awarded a settlement for the fraudulent behavior.

Update: Sony Music has denied the claims in a recent statement- “No one has conceded that Michael Jackson did not sing on the songs. The hearing Tuesday was about whether the First Amendment protects Sony Music and the Estate and there has been no ruling on the issue of whose voice is on the recordings.”

What the hell?!? I listened to the songs in question. Them vocals sound horrible. Did the Jackson family sign off on this?

Just listened to that Monster song with 50. I can hear similarities, but definitely sounds like somebody trying to be michael.
