New Rap Language came out in 1980 while Showdown came out in 1981. Both songs featured artists that would later be considered pioneers and/or legends. The big difference (to me anyway) is that Showdown was more of a song while New Rap Language was more like a freestyle session. Meaning, the way the music was arranged (bass, guitars, etc.) was composed like an actual song. New Rap Language was dope but the music that accompanied the rapping didn't have as much structure as Showdown.
