According to the interview above this is actually a re-release of the project Top Dawg heard and decided to sign him.

I copped it...it’s a dope debut...a rerelease of his independent album...I’m anxious to see how he’ll grow under tha TDE umbrella and gets to use Punch and soundwave, getting game from Soul, Dot, Q, etc...I’ve actually listened to this album more this weekend than a few of tha other “well known” artists lately
