Dilla

Puff

He's a producer, a producer is more than a beat maker. Quincy Jones is a producer, Dr.Dre is a producer. But that's another discussion.

I'll rather reward a person who made the beat then the one who took that already made beat and just had the artist drop their verses on it and claiming credit.

i know...but j.dilla, and most, if not ALL the other guys in the tourney actually compose, arrange, create the beats from scratch.

If Diddy just coming in, saying "i think this would go good here and there" then to me, that doesnt qualify him for this contest. now had someone mentioned the Hitmen, then thats different

see here? he mixing...

......so is quincy jones not one of the greatest producers of alltime? and he does essentially create the beats. I don't think yall know exactly what a producer does .

Fuck a beatmaker give me a producer. The producer doesn't only essentially create the beat, they create the song. The melody, the hook, the concept, everything about the song, is orchestrated by the producer.

goldie, i know what the musical term for a producer is lol

im saying, is that the criteria used when judging these guys or are we talking about guys that actually make beats as well as compose, arrange, etc...

I would say Quincy Jones is an awesome producer and it wasnt until i learned the musical definition that i was able to appreciate his contributions to MJ's albums early on.With that said, that's why im asking about the criteria, b/c using him as an example, if he doesnt play one single instrument, does that make him a producer for this tourney?

I dont think there is no one else in the tourney that is in the same convo of what puff does

It's all about the creativity within producing. Without Puff, the sound of hiphop and rnb wouldn't be what it is today. Ima find the interview with Timbo talkin about this, cuz unfortunately people are giving more credit to beatmakers than producers, when it should be the other way around.

aye man, im fine with either one

like chi talking about he not giving credit to him flipping samples, but if it wasnt for him doing that, i dont ever know the original compositions those beats came from

like, i heard Juicy before I heard the sample. It wasnt until i think GTA San Andreas where i heard the original lol

not anybody can make a sample still sound classic while sounding new and fresh. That takes talent imo.

I didnt realize a bulk of No Limit's catalog was samples until i got much older
