Just finished watching this and this is easily one of the most depressing films I've seen yet it ends on a hopeful note. The stop-motion animation was awesome and there was enough crude, adult humor to offset how depressing this film gets with the tragedies that the main character deals with starting from birth. Using snails as a metaphor, snails are always going forward. We can't allow the tragedies that can occur throughout our life paralyze us.

"Life only makes sense backwards. But we have to live it forwards."
