I don’t mind LL’s list even tho the Beastie Boys were only on Def Jam for their debut. The rest of their albums were on Capital Records.

LL
Jay
DMX
Chuck D

Honorable Mentions: Slick Rick, EPMD, Redman, Kanye

Gotta put ja rule o there

LL Cool J
DMX (resurrected the label)
Public Enemy
Young Jeezy (one of the faces of the south right when the south took over)

I tried to put one influential person from different eras.

Irv saved Def Jam when he became head of A&R over there...

DMX, Ja Rule, Warren G and Jeezy all helped save Def Jam over periods of time, which they dont really get the credit for...

Personally, I would stick more traditional Def Jam artists on there, rather than artists like Ja and DMX who saved the label but mainly repped Murda Inc/Ruff Ryders etc

I think L probably got it right, maybe stick EPMD on there in place of P.E or Beastie Boys...

edit: Run DMC HAVE to be on the mountain too, how did LL leave them out???

LL
Run DMC
Slick Rick
Beastie Boys/EPMD/P.E pick a name out a hat...

I wouldn't count Jay

Edit: should joint ventures count?

Like Jay repped the Roc banner while def jam was the distro

Ja repped Murda Inc

Luda...DTP

The legacy acts are the only ones that I can recall off the top of my head that had everything run through Def jam

It’s crazy to think about how much everyone just assumed Run-DMC was on Def Jam.

Yeah its easily miss assumed tbh although they I think they started out on Rush Management (could be wrong) and spent most their career with Profile/4th & Broadway, Im pretty sure they still signed to Def Jam at somepoint though??? Maybe for Crown Royal or something??? Maybe they literally never signed with Def Jam which is crazy...

Nope, Clide Davis personally signed them for Arista Records for Crown Royal. Which was their downfall smh.
