I get the conversation Cole and Lil Boat is having, but nah. It’s cool to have a discussion about what rap should sound like but if it’s not good then it’s not good. Now it’s subjective of course but listening to guys like Jay, NaS, Pun, BIG, L, Ma$e? Just to name a few, made me believe this is how rappers are supposed to sound.
Music is subjective no doubt, but legitimate rap ability is still legitimate rapping ability. So when you get a Soulja Boy, he is who he is, to me his style should not reign supreme of what it means to rap at your peak unless you talking about party, silly rap. Nobody wants to be a whipping boy, so I get not wanting to be the butt of everybody’s jokes but that’s really how it should be When you’re making rap music that doesn’t represent what it’s supposed to be. It feels like a regression honestly.
