Who do you think you are? I am
Got a story

So, I’m watching a documentary on franchise restaurant owners. In the documentary it goes on to talk about the price of owning a franchise, the duration of the contract, the expectations of being a franchise owner and such.

Here’s where it got interesting . Often times, organizations like McDonalds give new franchise owners, opportunities in low income areas.

A lot of black entrepreneurs that sought to become franchise owners took offense to this particular thing because, why don’t they get opportunities in affluent areas. Well, after they fought for the ability to have this happen.

They found out that, locations in affluent areas are not meant to be the bank of interest that franchises are seen as.

In low income areas, you just pay operational cost.

Meaning, you own a franchise, you pay workers, you pay operational fees, you pay dues, and you have a steady expectation per year of at least breaking 100k in profit after expenses. Because your franchise is affiliated with a highly marketed brand.

But if, if you invest in McDonald’s in affluent areas. You Invest in skilled hospitality workers, meaning higher wages ,grounds keeping for a look that matches the area, restaurant upkeep that matches the esthetic, lighting that makes people feel safe, lot work that’s a welcoming drive in and out, and other things, because. The restaurants in affluent areas aren’t investments for money but investments for partnerships that lead to bigger investments.

Where as the other, is there to make you money to then, lead to bigger investment that makes the affluent areas worth it.

So where McDonald’s was trying to funnel these young entrepreneurs to opportunities to make money, the beginning of this process, these brothers saw it as discrimination. And were then gifted the opportunities of being in debt for the next 20 years.

Moral of the story, sometimes, it’s about race, and sometimes.
