In a vacuum, I'd say dude was wrong. If the cops call you over for jaywalking or whatever, there's no reason to puff out your chest from the jump and get all aggressive. You don't have to be passive either. There is a middle ground between the two.
That said, we don't live in a vacuum. I don't know how many times the cops have harassed him over bullshit. I don't know what experiences his family and friends have been through because of cops. I don't know how seeing all these other black people being killed has affected him. Dude might have just had enough, and it's tough to say a person in that position is wrong when they act out.
At the end of the day, I'll say what I've always said. Do whatever gives you the best chance of getting out of the situation alive.
