Jim Jones: Put me in the booth and see who's left standing

Can someone school me on what makes Lil Baby the chosen one outside of his work ethic ? Like he be rapping, but nothing really be pulling me into thinking like he one of the best rappers out. Dude is heavily featured alot though and says a couple dope lines but haven't been impressed yet tbh. Maybe it's voice or the auto tune but I don't get the hype man and I've listened to ALOT of his music trying to find what makes him special.

idk but some may say he has advanced his skill, performance and presence since he first came out....i think thats where most of the praise comes from for me...i've seen him get better over time

he's good amongst the younger rappers for me

Won't deny he is good among the younger rappers out or he has gotten better, but it's levels to him being the best rapper. When folks get that title or pressure, I grade them differently, and this is coming from someone who listens to Playboi Carti and others so I ain't on some "no mumble rap or main stream" shit but with Lil Baby I honestly feels his work ethic is what giving him the title right now and I don't grade best rappers based on if they on everyone shit. Also see when folks say he be "snapping" and I'll listen to the verse it's just him going on long winded flows. Idk man not trying to hate or maybe I'm grading too hard but if feel the bar is lowered with the newer wave of rappers and I don't operate like that. I do believe he is one of the better new rappers because even though he uses too much auto tune he tries to at least say something. But newer rappers like Polo G would destroy him on a song imo.
 
Here is a list of rappers from the new age that I believe is better than Lil Baby that has mainstream potential. Won't even use lyrical miracle people because niggas not dancing to that shit in clubs.

Polo G
Sheff G
Deante Hitchcock
Duke Deuce
Maxi Kream
Flip Dinero

Prime example. Who has more presence in this song? But folks say Lil Baby presence is what makes him the best rapper out but Flip shines bigger on this shit easily imo and is waaay more diverse.

great points....i'm just as critical....i'd have him closer to the bottom based off age and lack of experience myself lol

Lol that's fair. And no one can say lack of experience with me fam. Music is something I do so I pay close attention to ALOT of these new niggas moves and songs so I'm tapped into what's bubbling for the most part. Just could never get the Lil Baby hype train outside of dude insane work ethic. He is undeniable because he is a decent rap performer but a incredible worker.
