I'm not talking about the uptempo joints like MJB/Biggie's Real Love, I'm talking about a rapper on a slow RnB track.

I saw an interview with Jon B and he was talking about how the label didn't want him to do a song with a rapper because it was out of the norm and other reasons. Then he said it might be the first rnb/rap ballad and I couldn't think of any others before it.

Interview:

I didn't explain it properly in the OP.

I'm talking about an RNB SONG by an RNB singer featuring a rapper.

Listen to Sugarhill Gang's first album. It came out in 1980.

And when you're finished with that, listen to Kurtis Blow's first album. Without doing a giigle search, I'm pretty sure that came out in 1980 too.

And then there's Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5's first album.

And UTFO's first album.

And then you have Whistle. They started off as a rap group. They had a song called Buggin Out/Nothin Serious. But they switched to an R&B group and had a ballad called Always and Forever that was pretty popular.

This song is a lot better than I remembered it

This next song is just as bad as I remembered it

And now you know why Run DMC changed the game and is a top 5 rap group a Sugarhill Gang ISN'T a top 5 rap group

Here's another song from their first album

At the time (1980) I was pissed because I wanted them to rap all the way through the whole album.

But now that I'm in my 40s, these R&B songs aren't that bad

Here's that group Whistle I was talking about. They started off as a rap group and switched to an R&B group.
