This depends on what time period you are focusing on. Currently? No. They do not exist for the purpose of crime. However, their existence over the centuries is a result of crimes, colonialism, and outright forgery and fraud. This maakes it a bit murky. In deviance, I was taught that if an organization isn't built around crime then it's technically not a criminal organization.

Yall should watch the Documentary "Deliver Us From Evil". Its about a priest who was a priest at a church but ended up getting accused of shit, so to protect him the catholic church moved him to a different city and church, then he became a live in priest and stayed at families homes, ended up getting more charges from the families. Again, the church moves him to a different Home/Family to protect him and he continued to molest kids each time. He eventually was arrested and deported to Ireland where he used a different identity and got involved in the church yet again, then in 2010 was arrested for child porn involving kids as young as 2 years old. Crazy fucking story/doc.

It's upsetting that so many of the priest involved with this scandal are dead and gone but also that statute on limitations is preventing real justice from being served on the ones that are left.

Such a bad time for not just the Catholic church, but religion in general. The social climate being what it is, more than ever, there's a need for that moral compass. The wisdom that comes with the religous teachings are important. How to treat you fellow man, how to discipline yourself, etc. Not saying that you need religion to learn those leasons, but one can learn from personal accounts of historic religous figures.

Can't teach people that don't trust you. It'll just be the blind leading the blind.
