The idea for this thread came from a conversation I had with my son and nephew. They are 9 & 8 and my nephew stays with us during the summer.

They go to a summer day camp and they be coming back with all the little dances the kids be doing tryna show me and my wife how to do them. I can remember doing the same things, but today it just caused to to reflect and realize how far removed I am from those days at this point.

Disclaimer...ion be keeping up with all the new trends in music no more and pretty much like what I like, but that transition from knowing everything to "this s**t stupid" has set in and I'm at the latter end of that.


But they was tryna do that "shoot" dance. Recognized it from the This Is America video but never heard the song. So I looked it up. I guess it's a dance to go along with a song talking about shooting someone?

One, how did this become a things kids are doing?

Just heard the song. But I think you right. But the lyrics caused the confusion.



Edit: after listening to the lyrics and watching the video, I was right the first time. They made the song seem loke it's about shooting dice so it could get the radio pass. They talking about guns and killing people tho throughout it among other things. This aint for no kids man....

My 19 year old just bought an iPad a week ago. I launched into a tirade about how stupid a purchase it was, she coulda got an Android or Windows tablet for half the price or less, and argued her justifications for having an iPad. A few days later she's crying broke and can't get to work I told her "Well, if you hadn't bought that iPad ya ass would have some money, now wouldn't you?"

Omg yes. I be tryna block all them wack ass rappers. Luckily he listens mostly to what I listen to but when he was singing some shit by Lil Pump, I nearly blew a gasket.

I've been on that shit forever. It used to be that the only music played in the ride with the kids present was classic Jazz, 80's/90's R&B as long as it was appropriate, Detroit Techno and Chicago House, or conscious Hip Hop (i.e KRS, Blackstar, Common, etc). I kept up with that for the longest and, just like @1/2 said if they tried to listen to some shit they heard at school it was a no-go. Unfortunately you can't stop 'em once they get that first media player and take it to school with 'em. We got my oldest a Creative MuVo MX and, because she had no internet access, she came to me to get music for it. Out of all the shit she asked for something like 5 or 6 were age appropriate so that's all she got. About a month later something was wrong with it and she gave it to me to check it out (the fuckin battery died...). Got it back up but when I plugged it into my machine to make sure the files were alright she had it filled up with all kinds of thoroughly inappropriate songs she got from other kids at school transferring it to her player via the school's PC's.

Thankfully my two youngest have no interest in anything but old school shit me and the wife listen to on the radio, and my son has recently taken a strong interest in the Detroit Techno shit I listen to while I work.

I feel that way b/c my ears cannot tolerate it, and condemns it all. That's why I find myself dl'ing music from my era. Hell...even music from my folks era. I appreciate it more than I did back then.
