Everybody knows about the Kool Moe Dee vs Busy B ambush. It wasn't really much of a battle. Busy B went on first, then Kool Moe Dee came on after and dissed him.
Busy B appeared in the movie Wildstyle, which was filmed in 1982 and came out in 1983 which tells you he was one of the biggest rappers of that era.
He released a few 12" singles and eventually an album in 1988 which was ok.
Everybody rates MCs by how many albums they have and how many classics and how many records sold, Grammy Awards, etc. Busy B doesn't really have any of that, but he was in the first class of MCs and he's on a lot of tapes and flyers from 1980-1984. He was doing the club circuit in Harlem and The Bronx before Hip Hop went nationwide. If you go to Youtube you can probably find a handful of shows he did when Hip Hop was just getting started.
Having said that, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 made more classic records. Treacherous Three, Sugarhill Gang, and Kurtis Blow all have a deeper catalog.
When Run DMC came out in 1983/84 most of the old school groups fell by the wayside.
He eventually put out an album in 1988 but by that point his time had passed.
