to pull the plug on a loved one?
Just did this week for my mom. Basically had to make the decision to stop life saving efforts and transition to comfort care. She passed less than 24 hours later.to pull the plug on a loved one?

My condolences brother for you and your family. I'm a only child and sooner than later I'll have to make that call as well.Just did this week for my mom. Basically had to make the decision to stop life saving efforts and transition to comfort care. She passed less than 24 hours later.
Yeah it was really weird. I haven’t been close with my mom since I was little. Last time I saw her was at my wedding 18 years ago. We’ve spoken from time to time since then but not much. So when I got the call she was down bad I went to see her in the hospital. Told her I loved her and I’m good so she could go in peace and wouldn’t feel bad for giving me up when I was little. My condolences brother for you and your family. Doctor said she wouldn’t survive any more aggressive care and her only hope was to be in a nursing home on a ventilator the rest of her life. She was lucid and said she didn’t want that. So doctor needed me to make the call to start comfort care and let her pass.
I have a half brother and sister. He’s on drugs and in and out of prison. My sister left the hospital and never came back. My aunts looking to me after all this time bring away from that side of my family. Very strange situation to be in.
Yeah it was COPD for my mom too. Once those lungs get to a certain point ain’t no coming back unfortunately.Damn, that’s a hell of a position to be in. My condolences bro. A couple years ago my sister had to do the same thing for our mom after she had a heart attack. She was already in the hospital for a few months with late stage COPD waiting for a lung transplant. We knew if she made it through the heart attack she would never be the same and no one would have wanted to see that including my mom so she made the right call.
