I always thought Fredo let out some info on accident to the other side, but watching it again he purposely was making deals with the other side. Straight up lied and said he never met homie to hide his involvement. Fredo was a snake.

You're right, that sit down he had with Mike where he said he was pissed being passed over. Maybe Fredo not as stupid as everyone thought
 
Fredo made too many mistakes.
Bumbling with the gun during the hit on his pops.
Going against the family while in Vegas
Lying about not knowing ol boy.
The hit at the the house was directly him based on whatever info he gave up. The hit was just out of his control.

Those who most committed to the lifestyle would have just killed him right away to get it behind them

Being the Don Mike could have easily just let him live and no one speaks on it.

I think in most situations today, niggaz prolly let their brother live. Just kick him out the family.

Nah fuck that. Fredo's jealousy almost got me, my wife and my kids shot up.

Fredo was too busy getting punked by his wife to open the curtains. Fredo made up for his transgressions when he gave Mike info to beat the government
 
I kinda wish I watched the movies before I read the books, but I found the book when I was like 11-12 I ain't watch the movie till years later
