Welcome To aBlackWeb

Do you listen to your parents? Did you listen to your parents growing up?

only advice my pops ever gave me was never get a woman pregnant unless i'm marrying her....

which was ether to me cuz he wasn't married to my moms, but i realized that was something he wished he could get back...so i was careful about that one....

me and mom bump heads since forever, but i mostly follow her advice, unless i really know what i'm doing

Only met my father one time and left my mothers house at around 16. So I guess I have not followed her advice since. We are cool but her advice never really meant much to me. Sadly

For the most part I did. I was mature as a kiddo. I never been in any trouble I couldn't get out of.

These days my parents ask me for my suggestions on certain things so the tables have turned.

Yup

My Dad wasn't the disciplinary type after my mama passed (he only spanked me once).

But he was the type I didn't wanna disappoint. I understood how hard it was for him to raise two kids by himself. I definitely made sure I didn't become a burden on him.

So of course I listened. My Dad never had to worry about me wylin in school or out in the streets.

I did and I didn't. I was raised to be very independent-minded from an early age and question authority. I think, in practice, I did nearly all things that they wanted for me but I would never do what I was told off the strength of "because I said so"s, for example.

I put it like this...

As a kid, I did what I was supposed to because well I wasn't paying any bills and I wasn't grown. Living with mom as a kid was easy but going to stay with dad for 3 months during the summer...well...

As an adult in my mid 30's, it can be a headache dealing with mom because I find myself arguing with her over dumb shit. I barely talk to my dad. I love them but they are annoying.
