Do qualifications matter anymore?

In a world where the president of the US is a reality TV star, the most successful tech moguls dont have college degrees, and many high ranking job opportunities come based on who you know not what you know...

It seems that qualifications don't matter, if they ever really did.

Tech folk don’t need a degree. They need practice

They matter. For every person u can name that did it without, there are millions more who get qualified.

On top of that, im sure most of the ppl surrounding them to help business thrive are qualified.

Trump aside i think its refreshing and inspiring to see someone succeed without going the conventional route.

In the IT field, certain certs matter. But you don't need college for it. What certs and degrees will do is give you a bargaining chip about your pay. But if you have the experience and not the cert, a job can give you the lowest pay instead of the max. And some jobs require you to have certain certs. But both of these things is trumped by who you know. Through my IT career, I got in by knowing certain people. From there, I studied and practice to sharpen my skill once I was in. Hell, I was hired as a system admin for network engineers. The job required I do some networking as well. From there, I studied and passed the ccna while beingin the network field with no experience.
