De La is crazy in the fact that they were so influential, underrated, lauded and overlooked all at the same time. Not to be too hyperbolic but if you delete them from the timeline the whole course of modern music changes. Extended props to Jungle Brothers who I would say deserve all of those accolades as pioneers but De La was on some other stuff that I'm still deciphering to this day. Those dudes along with Prince Paul took hip-hop and said this shit isn't just rap... it isn't just music... it's art. They were making Basquiat paintings to listen to.
