DDG sparked a debate on Twitter after he tweeted, "Today’s rappers are 10x better than the rappers back in the [day].. Respectfully."

One Twitter follower shot back, telling DDG, "yk i fw you the long way…but absolutely not. you can’t compare biggie and pac to anyone TODAY." DDG responded, "on some real sh*t.. when the last time u listened to either in the car.. BE TRUTHFUL."

DDG then furthered his thoughts, writing, "i respect the older generation of hiphop, but this generation creativity on another level fr. Hip Hop ain’t never been the number 1 genre until NOW."

DDG's comments led to a huge debate on Twitter, with some people pointing out that if he respected the "older generation of hip-hop," he wouldn't have made his comment in the first place. Others stated that beats and production are better today, but the lyrical content and talent is not superior to past generations. You can read DDG's tweets along with reactions above.

Rappers today use their voice in more creative ways and willing to genre bend and that's about it.

Lyrically, you still got some rappers that care but most don't. They tend to care about the vibe and feeling they are trying to give than impressing the audience with skill.

Then also, most of the rappers that can really rap have no personality.

I'll say this much; When I was growing up in the 80s people used to go on and on about how The Beatles were the greatest group of all time.

Well into the 90s people would say The Beatles are the greatest band of all time.

The Beatles have some cool songs, but I can name a few bands that are better (Bob Marley & The Wailers and Kool & The Gang to name a few)

Same with The Rolling Stones. People go on and on about how great they are.

I guess it's a generational thing. I remember when Pac and Big were in their prime and they certainly made a big impact on pop culture.

I guess if you don't remember it then it doesn't mean anything.

Also this is the reason hip hop culture has no value. It's not being carried forward by ppl who respect it. There's no earthly reason why each decade of ppl should feel comfortable enough openly disrespecting legends from a decade prior. It's not like big and pac existed 1500 yrs ago. These niggas were around 25 yrs ago and ppl been saying dumb shit like this since the mid 2000s.

Lol folks let this type of stuff anger them. The kid said what he said. Move on. He aint bumpin your favorite GOATs in the whip it is what it is is.

10 years from now will only be more of a disconnect.

Thats pretty much how i felt about RUN DMC, Big Daddy Kane, and them type of old school rappers in the late 90s. Dated asf and not something I would of ever bumped with the windows down anywhere....its a cycle that will never die as each gen goes thru.
