J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves are re-teaming for a new Batman animated series.

The powerhouse directors, along with DC animated universe veteran Bruce Timm, have received a straight-to-series order for Batman: Caped Crusader from HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The series is billed as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology.”

“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City,” said Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Reeves (The Batman) in a statement. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”

For Abrams and Reeves, the project represents a reunion after they previously worked on Felicity and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

For Timm, the project is a return to an animated world he helped establish with 1995’s acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series.

Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans,” said Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register. “It is in that spirit that we are bringing together three master storytellers in J.J., Matt and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that will continue in the same groundbreaking legacy.”

More show details from the release: “Utilizing state-of-the-art animation techniques and technologies available, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

I too feel a bit overwhelmed with Batman, but this is pretty cool. Hopefully this is for a more mature audience. I like the Reeves is involved. Could care less about Abrams. Dope that they got Bruce Timm.

Bruh ain't ever enough fucking Batman!! This sounds really dope and interesting. Those DC cartoon joints cool but this sounds better then majority of them I've seen but I aint going lie I thought the announcement was going to be the rebirth of Batman The Animated Series that was going around as a rumor for HBO. I just hope this style ain't like them anime joints, keep that shit closer to the AS style.

That’s quite a team up for a animated series, they probably won’t get James Tucker or Kevin Conroy involved but if this really has a similar high production value like the animated series had than we got some goat shit to look forward to.

I fuck with Batman so I’m not mad at more Batman content. My only worry is that they will either put him in an environment from the 70’s to make a dude wearing a batsuit who happens to be a billionaire that nobody actually just shoots and kills, to make it all make sense.

Or they are gonna put him in today’s world and it’s gonna be so laced with social commentary that it’s gonna be a turn off. Not looking for a cartoon about a billionaire in a bat suit to hit me with today’s math.

If they can make it just right, with detective work and a reasonable amount of danger for who he is…well then, I need more to watch on tv anyway.

Enough Batman??????

Well they got Bruce Timm who did the original 90s cartoon. I think fans of the series from the 90s will be pretty pleased with this. We shall see once its finally out though.

I really like what i've seen from Matt Reeves so far, so hopefully he keeps that good shit coming.

Honestly, DC don't have that many interesting characters to me. So I'm not surprised they're doing more batman stuff and I'm not going to complain
