Weak argument and logic. The criteria is not what’s classic for its era, but classic period.I agree with goldie, this album is a classic for its time and era.

You used Illmatic for this argument? An album that has been praised and lauded by various people across genres?there is no way to rate classic without relation to its era. there is no such thing as "classic period." If Nas Illmatic came out in 1950 jazz era, people wouldn't have been saying "oh this shit is a classic." They'd be like "what the fuck is this bullshit?"
You can't judge anything without relating it to its time and place.
Hell nah
Singin In The Rain is dated but it’s a classic movie, hell let’s focus on black movies Juice is a classic but it’s dated, dated is not an argument that can be used to be held against a classic album. It’s different factors combined that determines what a classic is.He has a point tho, some albums if they dropped today would be considered "dated" in relation to the beats and lyrics. If Ultramagnetic MCs or Bigger and Deffer dropped today people would overlook it because the sounds of the times today are past that era.
Some albums are exceptions to the rule, like Illmatic or All Eyez On Me but you could still make a compelling argument that if Illmatic dropped today would it still have the same impact ? That would make a great thread comparing other albums too.
