Can somebody define the Ringtone Era

In another thread somebody mentioned the ringtone era.

I wasn't really paying attention at the time. I had mental health issues and wasn't really concerned with Hip Hop at the time.

What exactly is the ringtone era and why is it important?

The ringtone era was an era during the mid to late 2000’s, when a song was so popular that artists were making money from people buying the song and making it their ringtone. So when you got a phone call instead of a generic ringing sound like this.

Artists saw this so certain ones tailored their music for ringtones. It’s neither good nor bad. Mainstream music around that time was in the toilet anyway so it is what it is.
