Do you care about authenticity in hip hop?

Do you care if an artist has somewhat lived what he's rapping about or do you think it's all entertainment and you don't care if he never lived any of the shit he's rapping about?

in perspective you can say that authenticity really means nothing as long as the quality of the music is decent..

but i feel in order to the artist to truly connect with his audience, he has o come from a place of relevance to the material he's rapping about or it comes off as fake and phoney, and while there will be some who fucks with that.. those who consider themselves pursuit will always consider those artist fraudulent and never worthy of the "greatest" crowns...

If you rappin about XYZ, but you never lived the life someone involved with XYZ I can't fuck with you. I can understand grimy ass cats that DON'T rap about the shit they did, i.e. ATCQ, but not the other way around.

This right chea

Gotta be authentic. Be about the shit you talk. This is the reason I cant fuck with Ross, though he is talented.

its kinda pointless if I dont believe you lol

its not as serious to me as it used to be, but I dropped a few after finding certain shit out

told the story plenty time, but I was mad af about Plies lmao

In the 80s even loads of rappers wore pause worthy outfits or didn't rap like they were from the hood or whatever, especially on the West where Funk was popular and there wasnt as much hip hop culture as NYC to keep up to date or get inspiration from... But even so look at 'Hawaiian Sophie' and Jay was pretty certified, you woudnt of guessed it by looking at that video... It wasnt really until the 90s that it was just as cool to a rapper as it was street cat...

If Ice T wasnt in the army he prolly wouldnt of been ahead of his time and seen what was going on in hip hop back east more then alot of other people on the west coast, unless they were digggin through records at record stores, even then its unlikely you would get the full picture...
