Allison Mack of ‘Smallville’ Is Charged With Sex Trafficking

An actress from the television series “Smallville” was charged on Friday with sex trafficking for her involvement in an organization promoting itself as a self-help group for women that forced its members to have sex with its leader, federal prosecutors said.

The actress, Allison Mack, 35, helped gain recruits for what was purported to be a mentorship group but instead exploited its followers, who were branded with a symbol containing the initials of the organization’s leader, said Richard P. Donoghue, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York, in a statement.

Ms. Mack participated in a group know as Nxivm (pronounced Nex-e-um), the authorities said. The organization, near Albany, was led by Keith Raniere, 57, who was arrested in March by federal officials in Mexico on sex-trafficking charges. Its followers were forced to have sex with him because they feared that if they did not do so, compromising material that they had provided about themselves would be released publicly, according to a complaint.

The group has denied it was a cult, but former members have said that Mr. Raniere demanded obedience from his followers, who referred to him as “Vanguard.”

Mr. Raniere created a secret society within Nxivm called “DOS,” which derived from a Latin phrase that loosely translated to “Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions,” or “The Vow,” officials said in the statement.

“DOS operated with levels of women ‘slaves’ headed by ‘masters,’” the statement said. “Slaves were expected to recruit slaves of their own (thus becoming masters themselves), who in turn owed service not only to their own masters but also to masters above them in the DOS pyramid.”

Ms. Mack was one of the women on the level of the pyramid immediately below Mr. Raniere, officials said.

The slaves were often required to perform “acts of care” and pay “tribute” to their masters, including doing work and other tasks for which they were not compensated, according to a letter federal prosecutors filed with the court.

They also had to participate in “readiness drills, which required them to respond to their masters any time of day or night, causing DOS slaves to be seriously sleep-deprived,” the letter said. The women, it added, were also branded in their pelvic regions with a cauterizing pen “with a symbol that, unbeknown to them, incorporated Raniere’s initials.”

Ms. Mack was arraigned on Friday afternoon and a plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf. She was held without bail, with a bail hearing set for Monday.

A publicist for Ms. Mack declined to comment on Friday evening. Lawyers representing her could not immediately be reached on Friday evening.

Ms. Mack played Chloe Sullivan in “Smallville,” which told the story of the upbringing of Clark Kent in Smallville, Kan., before he became known as Superman. In the series, which lasted for 10 seasons starting in 2001, Ms. Mack’s character was one of his best friends. Ms. Mack is also known for her roles in the movies “The Ant Bully” (2006) and “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!” (1997).

Another actress on “Smallville,” Kristin Kreuk, wrote on Twitter last month that she took an intensive personal growth course with Nxivm to help overcome her shyness, that she left five years ago and that during her involvement she never experienced any “illegal or nefarious activity.”

“I am horrified and disgusted by what has come out about DOS,” she wrote.

Ms. Mack’s biography on her website, which is no longer active but is accessible in internet archives, said that after “Smallville” ended, she immersed herself in the study of acting in “both conventional and unconventional ways.”

The more unconventional approach happened when she came across the work of Mr. Raniere, the website said, adding: “Over the course of several years, Mr. Raniere mentored Allison in her study of acting and music. As such, she has developed a deep connection to the nature of humanity as it relates to acting as an art form, and a tool for personal evolution.”

This whole story here is a trip. I ran across this interesting article here about the organization Mack' s involved in and the charges.

The leader of NXIVM, a slave cult backed by massive funds an elite family, was arrested in Mexico and charged with sex trafficking and forced labor conspiracy.

In November of last year, I published an extensive article detailing the history, the elite funding and the mind control techniques used by Keith Raniere and his organization NXIVM. The article explained how NXIVM turned rich yet gullible women into sex slaves using techniques taken directly from the Monarch programminghandbook. It also asked why this organization was still active and why Raniere was still a free man.

Well, Raniere is not a free man anymore. He was arrested on Sunday by Mexican authorities in the $10,000-a-week luxury villa he was renting in Puerto Vallarta. Raniere was hiding out in this propriety with several female followers including Clare Bronfman, the daughter of billionaire Edgar Bronfman.

The arrest led to a bizarre scene where several women, including Hollywood actresses Allison Mack and Nicki Clyne, engaged in a high-speed chase with police.

'Smallville' actress Allison Mack freed to parents on $5 million bond

A federal judge agreed on Tuesday to release "Smallville" actress Allison Mack to the custody of her parents in California, setting a $5 million bond.

Mack, 35, pleaded not guilty on Friday to recruiting women to join a secret organization, called Nxivm, that prosecutors say treated them as “slaves,” providing sexual and financial services for the group’s leaders. She is charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and conspiracy to commit forced labor.

Judge Viktor Pohorelsky of U.S. District Court in Brooklyn said Mack would be allowed to travel only for court appearances, attorney meetings and other approved reasons. She is prohibited from using cellular services or the internet while she is at her parents’ home, and will be electronically monitored.

According to federal prosecutors, Mack and Keith Raniere, 57, are the top two leaders of Nxivm, a self-proclaimed women's empowerment group.

Prosecutors say it required women to provide collateral, such as nude photos, personal property or potentially damaging information, in return for membership and forced them to perform manual labor and sexual acts for leaders.

Raniere was arrested last month in Mexico after federal prosecutors accused him of coercing female members of Nxivm into having sex with him and branding them with his initials, among other crimes.

Mack is prohibited from communicating with former or current members of Nxivm. Pohorelsky and the court's pretrial services are ensuring that California authorities will be able to track her technology use.

In an undated statement posted by the group on its website, Nxivm denies the accusations.

“In response to the allegations against our founder, Keith Raniere, we are currently working with the authorities to demonstrate his innocence and true character,” read the statement. “We strongly believe the justice system will prevail in bringing the truth to light.”

Some of Mack's old tweets from 2013 and 2016 show her attempts to contact and potentially even recruit celebrities like actress Emma Watson and singer Kelly Clarkson into Nxivm.

.@EmWatson I'm a fellow actress like yourself & involved in an amazing women's movement I think you'd dig. I'd love to chat if you're open.

Actress Allison Mack to plead guilty for role in alleged New York sex cult

Former "Smallville" actress Allison Mack is slated to plead guilty Monday in the case of the upstate New York self-help group that prosecutors say doubled as a secret sex cult.

Mack, 36, is set to appear in a Brooklyn courtroom to admit that she participated in criminal activity as a high-ranking member of NXIVM, according to a notice on the court calendar of the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York.

Mack had pleaded not guilty last July to charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. She was among six people indicted last year for their roles in running the controversial group led by Keith Raniere, who prosecutors say ran a master-slave ring within the organization with Mack's help.

As part of the secret group inside NXIVM, known as DOS, women were pressured to have sex with Raniere and brand his initials into their flesh, court papers say.

Prosecutors said Mack, described as a "first-line master" in DOS, engaged in the sex trafficking, forced labor and extortion of a woman identified in court papers as Jane Doe 5.

It was not immediately clear which charges Mack would be pleading guilty to, or whether she would be entering into a cooperation agreement.

Mack's lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment.

NXIVM supporters say it was a self-help group committed to changing the world. Prosecutors have described it as a criminal enterprise built around a pyramid scheme designed to enrich the top officials and supply Raniere with a stable of sex "slaves."

Two defendants, Nancy Salzman and her daughter Lauren, have already pleaded guilty in the case.

Raniere, who was known inside the organization as "Vanguard," was hit with child pornography charges last month. He had already pleaded not guilty to racketeering, trafficking and conspiracy charges.

Raniere is expected to go on trial later this month. Others ensnared in the case include NXIVM accountant Kathy Russell and Seagram's liquor heiress Claire Bronfman. They have all denied the allegations.

Allison Mack Pleads Guilty in Sex-Cult Case

A teary Allison Mack pleaded guilty to two federal counts Monday in the NXIVM sex-cult case.

“I have come to the conclusion that I must take full responsibility for my conduct and that’s why I am pleading guilty today,” said a choked up Mack, who admitted to one count of racketeering conspiracy and one count of racketeering.

Prosecutors allege that NXIVM, an Albany-area organization that offered costly self-help classes, contained a secretive sect called DOS that “operated with levels of women ‘slaves’ headed by ‘masters.’”

After Mack’s arrest last year, prosecutors said that she served as a “master” under NXIVM founder Keith Raniere, recruited slaves, and “directly or implicitly required her slaves … to engage in sexual activity with Raniere.”

“I’m very sorry for the victims of this case,” the Smallville actress said. “I’m very sorry for who I’ve hurt through my misguided adherence to Keith Raniere’s teachings.”

Raniere, who is charged with sex trafficking and possessing child pornography, allegedly gave Mack “financial and other benefits” in exchange for her recruitment efforts, prosecutors say.

The proceeding came in the wake of recent courthouse theatrics and ongoing suspicion that Mack would take a plea before trial.

Last week, Mack and Seagram’s liquor heiress Clare Bronfman, who is also charged in the case, had a gushing BFF-esque reunion, with long hugs and cheek kisses before a proceeding in the case.

Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis decided during this proceeding to keep jurors’ names secret, including after the trial, and “partially sequester” them, which means they will be transported to and from the courthouse by U.S. Marshals on trial days.

Garaufis’s decision was shocking, considering this level of anonymity is typically reserved for dangerous defendants, such as Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, not wayward stars and heiresses.

The week before, Bronfman nearly fainted in court after it was revealed that celebrity lawyer–cum–accused fraudster Michael Avenatti had negotiated with prosecutors for her.

Did all this, and still prob wont get the level of negative publicity Cosby & RKelly got. And will most likely not see a sentence as hard as Cosby, smh. They got the complexion for the protection.

Iuno man she's barely a C level actress IF that. Cosby and Kelly are icons in entertainment. Not to mention she was charged with the daughter of a billionaire family with very strong political connections none of which the aforementioned had. She's gonna see time and Cosby's sentence was light given all the people that came forward.

Also R. Kelly is a pedo and Cosby raped over a dozen women. If I were the DA I would have sent Kelz to a 6x4 or worse back in 2003 when the tape first surfaced.

I'll give you the billionaire affiliation, as to why she'll get something light. But you lost me on the Cosby stuff because he didnt rape over a dozen women. He had over a dozen women accusing him of various shit from over the years. He was essentially convicted on the word of that one woman he paid off back in like 05 or 06 i think. The Howard Stern looking one that said she was unwillingly fingered by him.

@LurkerSix he was convicted on one case because if I'm not mistaken that was the only state where it was still within the statutes of limitations and the other women didn't want to press it as a criminal matter especially since many were in places where the statues of limitations protected Cosby.

Nah there was another one from 2008. It was the chick that said he drugged her at the playboy mansion and she woke up to him sucking her feet. But I believe she didnt want charges filed against him, instead is or was suing him. Double checking i found this tho.
In a hearing Tuesday in Santa Monica, LA Superior Court Judge Craig Kaplan declared that the trial for Cosby’s supposed 1974 attack on then 15-year old Judy Huth would start on October 7, 2019.
https://deadline.com/2018/11/bill-c...-trial-date-los-angeles-judy-huth-1202501230/

In October 2019 theyre starting a civil case with the woman who said Cosby molested her at the playboy mansion when she was 15 & shes now suing him for emotional distress, ect.
Heres a site that lists all the women and their accusations against Cosby. A few sound real plausible, but a lot are questionable or dont make sense IMO. The craziest part for me is how many are represented by Gloria Allred.
https://www.thewrap.com/60-bill-cosby-accusers-complete-list-breakdown-guilty/

For the statue of limitations part you mentioned, thats tricky for me, because how even present evidence for it or to defend against it when the accusation is say 20 years old. It becomes a straight up he said she said. A lot of Cosby alleged victims are pushing for no statues of limitation for rape nation wide. A few states already have it, but not many. Its now currently in effect for California for any alleged rape after 2017.

Thirty-four states impose limits on when a rape case can be brought forward, ranging from 3 to 30 years after the assault.

But incase you or anyone else was wondering about the statue of limitations, state by state heres a list

https://www.revelist.com/feminism/statute-of-limitations-rape/4429

Edit: I'm mad I looked up all that for free on a damn internet forum, fuck yall

If plead guilty she probably snitched.
But difference is between her Cosby and Kelly is she plead guilty.
