A young Louisiana girl on a mission to hug police officers in all 50 states has her sights set next on Hammond.

Eight-year-old Rosalyn Baldwin will serve as keynote speaker at the Hammond Police Department's memorial ceremony to honor fallen officers on Friday, May 18, according to a news release from Lt. Steven Kellogg. The memorial will be held at the police station at 5 p.m.

"Rosalyn’s mission is to journey throughout the country as a beacon of light, love, and hope. She wishes to unite communities by demonstrating her sincere love and appreciation, for those who have committed their lives to serving and protecting the people of our nation," Kellogg said in the release. "How does she do this? By hugging police officers."

Rosalyn will arrive the morning of May 18 to meet the Hammond police family, Kellogg said.

"She will spend the day with officers, getting tours of the department, the vehicles, and even a K-9 demonstration," Kellogg said.

Indiana will be Rosalyn’s 30th state to visit on her tour. Due to her family’s schedule, Hammond is the only city in Indiana she plans to visit.

Louisiana girl on mission to hug police officers in all 50 states visits Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Celebrating officers during National Police Week one hug at a time, that’s what one little girl from Louisiana is doing.

Eight-year-old Rosalyn Baldwin is on a mission to hug police officers in all 50 states. Today, she can cross off Michigan on her list.

Her mother Angie Baldwin says, “She said God told her she needed to go out and give love.”

Rosalyn is in the second grade. Don’t ask her who gave her the best hugs.

The little girl responded,“Nope they’re all my favorite.”

Her mom says she wanted to do this after the Dallas police shooting.

Rosalyn spent the day giving hugs to two-legged and four-legged law enforcement officials. Detroit Police Chief James Craig got special treatment. Rosalyn gave him three hugs.

He explained, “This is a great day, whenever we can do something like this, very excited and she wants to do it.”

Rosalyn received some goodies from the department and was excited to show them some love.

Rosalyn has visited more than 25 states. Next up is Wisconsin and Indiana.

Mom doesn’t mind being on this journey.

“I’m just a glorified taxi driver.”

I'm all for letting a child be a child and protecting that innocence at all costs... but not letting that child know that most of these cops out here dont have her best interest or wellbeing at heart feels a lil irresponsible to me...

That being said I don't have any kids so I dont know what an appropriate age to have that particular talk with your kids is...

Those of yall with children when do yall think is a reasonable age to have that talk?

Those are the type of people that feel like when they are racially profiled. It's an inconvenience brought about by other black people. So they "understand" when they are profiled by law enforcement. They feel like if more black people embraced law enforcement, law enforcement would be less aggressive with black people.

lol, they have a messiah complex..

"hov did that, so hopefully you won't have to go through that"
