Former NFL defensive end Aldon Smith spent part of the final day of his life giving back to the community, according to those who were with him.

On Saturday, Smith visited a San Francisco charity that provides meals to people experiencing homelessness and donated 10 pizzas. The visit was confirmed by both the charity's founder and Smith's friend, Amir Shirazi, who accompanied him during the delivery.

According to Shirazi, Smith was later found unresponsive shortly after the visit. Emergency responders were called, but Smith was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

New details have emerged regarding the death of former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith. According to reports, Smith was found unresponsive in the passenger seat of a friend's Chevrolet pickup truck on Saturday, less than an hour before he was pronounced dead.

Smith's friend, Amir Shirazi, says that he initially believed the 36-year-old was asleep after discovering him slumped over with his mouth open. Shirazi also noted that Smith's body appeared to be twitching slightly at the time.

After realizing something was wrong, Shirazi called 911. Smith was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, where he was later pronounced dead Saturday afternoon. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the cause of Smith's death.

He had a short career since he had a lot of off field problems. I hadn't heard of him in years. Sounds like he was trying to get his life right
