Knicks doing no plays, 1 player is beating you and then you decide to double him when the whole team now has confidence. L

L take.

Wemby was guarding Alvarado so he could play freely and patrol the middle. Alvarado would set a weak side screen, moving Jalen onto Champagnie’s man. Wemby would call for the switch and stay in the middle.

At that point, Alvarado either gets Champagnie on him via the switch or is left wide open in the corner, while a Knicks wing either ends up with Wemby on them or Champagnie if they choose not to switch.

Next, that wing sets a screen for Jalen, and now you either have Wemby on Jalen or Champagnie on him, which is food. The rest of the Spurs’ defense is then forced to scramble and help.

From there, you pick your poison: let Jalen go to work in his bag, or force the help and swing it around for an open three.

It was clear as day.

Did you see the Spurs doubling Brunson in the 4th quarter in Game 4?

They ran at him once he crossed the half court line and then they would trap him coming off the KAT pick and roll.

Thats what I'm saying.

Saying coach needed to do this and coach didn't do that like it's not a second team out there stopping everything you trying to do.

We played Wemby really good and started closing out on 3s with mad energy. Wemby was getting pushed out the paint and the Spurs still took 22 shots in the paint in the second half and made only 5 them.

The Knicks for all 4 games so far have had the same defensive scheme. We forcing these mfers out the paint. Now in the first half, it was a combination of a team is super hot from 3 and Knicks a step slow. That first half lead wasn't built on no paint touches.

2nd half came, Knicks continued to do the shit they do which is you not coming into the paint unless you 7'5 with a running start. And then when the spurs kicked out, the Knicks just closed out with more energy AND Spurs missed open shots they were hitting.

And of course the Garden played a part. Soon as shit was a 15 point game crowd got into it and Spurs started playing tight as hell.

I respect the post and respond but all NY action was at the top of the key with Brunson and Kat, 1/5 pick n roll .

With Alvarado, he was hosting hand grenades at the end of the shot clock, or he was driving and trying to find someone to host a hand grenade. Kat shot a hand grenade and then tried to get a foul called, when he fell into the Spurs bench. His shot came from at the end of the shot clock.

Hart was in the way at times.

Again, I respect the post, NY ran nothing but 1/5 pick and roll with Kat under 5 mins while Brunson was being doubled.

Sigh of relief. When ball knowers actually see more than just “ball go in hoop,” it’s a beautiful thing.

I’m not talking Alvarado on ball action. I’m talking about his off ball actions. Everything with Kat and Jalen was mostly decoy for what was happening on the weak side to catch the Spurs scrambling in rotation. Alvarado would come up to get the ball whenever Brunson got pressed early near half court but his threes were mostly swing action after Wemby left him to stay middle.

Wemby was guarding Alvarado for much of the fourth.

I didn't say Alvarado was in any on ball action, I stated that Brunson when he crossed half court, the Spurs would double him. It's all good though.
