OUT NOW Drake - ICEMAN

Added to Calendar: 05-15-26

I think at this point you are either a Drake fan and will like the music, have a few tracks you don’t fuck wit and still be a fan or you don’t fuck w Drake at all (for whatever reason you feel justified by) and avoid listening to everything and kind of just check a song here or there if you come across it and decide if is good or not.

I’m seeing the Stan’s online saying the other are the lost tapes he put out simply to get out of his contract

Can’t wait to see the debate unfold

Hell that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw he dropped 3 albums. I actually listened to Maid and Habibti before Iceman, and (shooting him some bail) it sounded like he was just unloading the hard drive for contractual reasons. I've definitely been critical of Drake over the years, but I typically am of those where I see wasted potential unrelated to sales and billboard rankings...which as the consumer I could give 2 fucks about. I was hoping the events of the past two years would have sparked something new in him creatively, but I guess it's time to concede and lower my expectations.....it is what it is with duke. Got a few good joints out of the 3 pack, but I probably won't be re-playing any of it by this time next week.

Maid of honor 5.8/10 maybe it will grow on me over time like honestly nevermind did but there's only 3 or 4 songs I plan on listening to again. Wasn't terrible just not my vibe personally.

I think he does talk about other shit. His haters never amplify that, though. They pretty much use the same tropes, which is why I called his critiques lazy.

To pretend as if there are no legit criticisms of his music is where alot of his fans fall into. And thats more of a stan pov. And every time his music gets critquef his fans say it's "lazy"

This has to be said,

There's a trend of people critiquing Drake's music, and I'm sorry, but this has to be the phoniest shit in music right now. It seems........weird that so many people have these expectations and desires and are phrasing them like demands for how Drake's music should be. It's a very weird energy.

I don't listen to NBA Youngboy. That's not my cup of tea, but whatever. What you won't see me do is discuss him in a way that makes it sound like he owes me something or that I am disappointed in him. I don't listen to that niggas music, and I am aware of how big his following is. Still, I don't fuck with him, so why would I get on my soapbox about how his music hasn't evolved? Speaking of that, I'm not sure people even understand what they're saying when they say that about Drake or any artist. What the fuck do you mean when you're talking about a rapper evolving in their music? These niggas are not where they were when they first started. What growth are you looking for? I feel like that's just a lazy trope being thrown out there just to take shots at Drake because as long as you have NBA Youngboys, Jack Harlows, and all of these untalented IMO artists making hip hop, it's really hard to try and talk down on a rapper who has definitely been on the top of the game.

If this is the critique that people have of Drake, how do they feel about other rappers?

These songs aren't even controversial. Some of it sounds like stuff that could be dropped into one of his old albums, and some of it has a new style to it. There's a mix of his classic production sound and some new stuff. Overall, this is not music that should garner this much fake disappointment and fake letdown. Like, what were these niggas doing in the first place? There's no way that these lame ass excuses are people's real feelings. This feels like a corny trend, and people are just going along with it. Kind of like how if Drake was all f these negative things that people are so comfortably saying, how does his niggas cement himself at the top of the game for over 15 years while so many people have this disdain for him?

I'm calling bullshit.

The music is great, btw.

I’m sorry, my brother in Christ, but NBA YoungBoy has never dropped a Take Care or Nothing Was the Same for him to disappoint any of us.

The people you’re talking about, for better or worse, have a connection to Drake through life experience. Disappointment is inevitable when an artist doesn’t grow with their audience. And yes, that may simply mean the art isn’t for them anymore, but if the people it is for can hype it up, then the people it isn’t for can criticize it. Art is meant to be critiqued, and if you accept praise, then you must also accept the jeers.

Make Them Pay has been nearly universally applauded for a reason, so people aren’t just pulling hate out of their asses.

Also, growth isn’t just about content. This man has seemingly lost his feel for melody and songwriting too. Someone tweeted the “Clips vs. Hollow” predictable scheme, and that perfectly explains a lot of the lyrics on here.

You can’t listen to So Far Gone, Take Care, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, Nothing Was the Same—and then Iceman—and with a straight face say any of the shit you just typed, respectfully.

The critique is warranted regardless of how uncomfortable it may make you or others feel.

PS Don’t Worry is example #1 of a problem that has been pervasive for much of the last 5-7 years for Drake.

Isnt this just so lazy like replace drake name with any rapper and this is what you get?? like come on

I think at this point you are either a WALE fan and will like the music, have a few tracks you don’t fuck wit and still be a fan or you don’t fuck w WALE at all (for whatever reason you feel justified by) and avoid listening to everything and kind of just check a song here or there if you come across it and decide if is good or not.

I think at this point you are either a COLE fan and will like the music, have a few tracks you don’t fuck wit and still be a fan or you don’t fuck w COLE at all (for whatever reason you feel justified by) and avoid listening to everything and kind of just check a song here or there if you come across it and decide if is good or not.

I think at this point you are either a CHRIS BROWN fan and will like the music, have a few tracks you don’t fuck wit and still be a fan or you don’t fuck w CHRIS BROWN at all (for whatever reason you feel justified by) and avoid listening to everything and kind of just check a song here or there if you come across it and decide if is good or not.
